Maternal & Child Health Project

Over the course of March 2016 to December 2016, 18 mothers and 8 community health workers from my village of Thiabedji and 6 surrounding villages attended a training series focused on improving their knowledge of various maternal and child health topics.

In this role I:

  • Collaborated with clinic staff, community health workers, and women’s groups presidents and committee members to craft curriculum and select trainees
  • Obtained project funds by authoring and overseeing a Feed the Future grant
  • Designed agendas and project materials materials
  • Co-facilitated each training
  • Oversaw post-training evaluations

Topics covered:

  • Interpersonal Communication & Disease Transmission
  • Child Growth Monitoring & Nutrition
  • Common Childhood Illnesses: Malaria & Diarrhea
  • Pre-Natal Health
  • Post-Natal Health

Results:

  • 28 trainees increased their knowledge and capacity related to maternal and child health
  • Over 200 community members across 7 villages educated via educational health talks
