About Me

MCastrillon HeadshotWelcome. I’m Maria.

Proud Latina | Tar Heel | Diligent Worker | Bold Creative | Community-Builder

I am a firm believer in self-reflection as a tool for growth, taking the time to form genuine and real relationships, pushing past one’s comfort zone, and sharing our knowledge and experiences to enhance ourselves and those around us. What keeps me energized? Enthusiasm & Faith. Enthusiasm for everything I create and do, and faith in the sincere goodness of others and the belief that my efforts in the social-justice space are worthwhile and truly meaningful.

I am a Miami native but most recently, home was a rural farming village nestled in the mountains of southern Senegal where I lived and worked for two years developing health programming in partnership with the local clinic and community. Before that, I lived and studied in Chapel Hill, North Carolina where I obtained my B.A in Public Policy and served as Co-Director to a college-access and mentoring organization. Through these experiences, among others, I’ve had the opportunity to engage in work aimed at empowering those historically marginalized — work I can wholeheartedly say I am passionate about, firmly stand behind and strive to continue supporting.

This site is my attempt to showcase my work and experiences, and the skills and projects I’ve developed. Enjoy!
